G-8 Alliance for Food Security and Nutrition in Africa criticised

30.06.2014

A new report from the international human rights organisation FIAN (Food First Information and Action Network) criticises the G-8’s “New Alliance for Food Security and Nutrition”. The G-8 initiative is a public-private partnership which includes over 150 companies, among them the biggest transnational corporations in the food and agriculture sector.

The analysis of FIAN shows that the initiative ignores basic principles of human rights, such as participation. The report questions the role of the G-8 with regard to food security and nutrition and demands from the G-8 members that they implement the decisions of the Committee of World Food Security (CFS) in Rome:

The Rio+20 conference charged the CFS in June 2012 with the task to support interested nations in analysing  food security and sustainable agriculture with all stakeholders in their country.
